Although a former Navy cadet, he transferred to being a buck private in the U.S. Air Corps.  He later served as a private first class, and officer, Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Corps during WWII.  Sigrud was the flight engineer instructor for the new B-29 bombers.  Sigrud often used the B-24 bombers with the B-29 instrumentation for training.  He later worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp. in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he specialized, designed and worked with the design team of L.R.A. ( Large Rotating Apparatus ).   He designed  DC motors, generators and exciters.  Most went into steel mills, paper mills, submarines, pump motors for nuclear power plants.  He also worked on Exciters for Central Station Power Plants.  Similar examples of these huge generators can still be viewed during the tours at Hoover Dam.  Although the younger brother of Myron, Sigrud failed to become a pilot, himself, but succeeded in saving thousands of lives by training and instructing the B-29 Bomber flight engineers that helped bring the War to a faster end.  SEE WWII LETTERS FROM SIGRUD.
